I know it’s possible, but most of Utah is frigid in January. Has your area had a localized warm-up recently?

They are very common by the millions in new and heavily-fertilized lawns. They feed on a variety of vegetation and grasses. If the lawn touches the foundation, they commonly crawl up the walls and enter through AC units and window drip holes at the base of the window frame. Putting a 2 or 3 foot band of dark-colored, crushed stones as a border around the perimeter foundation goes a long way towards preventing them from crawling up the walls. The sun heats up the stones and turns the border into an effective barrier.
