It's possible that it is some kind of 'fly spotting' from the housefly or similar; which as you alluded to- results from feeding or defecation. (See photo attached.) The candy is from a company named Peerless (now out of business) and the flavor is Queen Bee Honey, Green Apple. Has anyone encountered similar specks on pieces of hard candy?
