Hello all,

Sorry I have not been around much - still planning to be with you
when/if I can

Those of you that know me will be aware that I am very much a learner so
please excuse these three daft questions

I am exploring the use of cron.

I have written a script that is three rsync commands that all work on
their own. They do a backup of various bit of my data. I have put it
in /home/edward/data/scripts and made it executable, and it runs happily
from the command line.

I now want to use cron to run them automatically.

To help out I have installed gnome-scheduler. Seems very simple. I am
quiote hapopoy to edit teh cron file manuall, but where is it? I have
tried crontab-e and I gret a

Qu. 1 Where is the cron file that it creates actually stored?

Qu. 2 As soon as I run gnome-scheduler, in syslog, every 9secs or so, I
get an entry like this:

Nov 11 17:23:17 marvin /usr/bin/crontab[6300]: (edward) LIST (edward)

(The number in square brackets goes up each time

I deleted the cron entry in gnome-scheduler, and shut it down, but the
entries continue to grow.

If I reboot the machine, there are no log entries until I re-start the
scheduler programme.

What is going on here please?

Qu 3. The script really needs to be run as root in its final
incarnation. Is it OK to drop it in /usr/bin and change its ownership
to root?

Thanks for your help

Ed
