in my simple example you can use any permutation of no spaces and spaces including "netstat>phil.log" May not be the case for multiparameter commands though. From days of old I seem to remember no space after the > but that might have been a VMS convention or something. VMS would have produced incremental versions of the file rather than overwriting though, but I digress.
