Apologies for not making the Meeting on Tuesday.

I would have made it but I had an unplanned meeting with a Car whilst
riding home on my bike. We had an exchange but not of details. He gave
me a bruise on my arm, a bruise on my hip, shock, and his wing mirror.
He took a small bit of my friend's bike's accelerator (it's an electric
bicycle) and a small amount of my confidence. No real harm done but I'm
bl**dy annoyed. The bruises took a while to come through but I can look
at the pretty colours on my arm and hand now... The accident was mostly
my fault (for not looking properly) which of course doesn't excuse the
git from driving away from the incident without stopping. If my own,
much lighter, bike hadn't had a flat and I'd met his vehicle with THAT
one I probably wouldn't be typing to you now.

Ah the eventful lives we leave. See you next meeting. My new motto is
"Stop, Look, Listen". Remember that campaign?

Timothy

Hi all,

Just a quick email to see who will be going to this months meeting
(tomorrow
night). I believe it is being held at Middleton School in Bretton.

I am going to try to get my ageing HP iPaq 2210 synced to my laptop. I
may
also bring the little server I brought last month to iron out a few
problems
I'm having with it.

Hope to see you all there.

Just to say that I had hoped to make it to this meeting and for once
work hasn't got in the way... and I've got dates mixed up and
double-booked myself for something else.

So I won't be there (again!).

<quote>
<Snippage>

I'm looking in the Fletton area anyway and wouldn't go with BT more
likely go with Virgin as I think Fibre is deffo the way to go as far as
high speed internet is concerned.
</quote>

I've never had problems with the speed of Virgin's connection but get
your best arguing voice and remember to pretend you have an apple (my
home pc is actually Windoze at the moment but I STILL pretended to have
an apple so that I didn't have to connect to Virgin using their idiotbox
program = never understood why companies bothered with those when it's
usually quite easy to tell people what internet settings to change in
order to connect). Also watch it if you manage to sign on for one of
their package deals. After about half a year they changed mine to
separate packages without telling me - one "Mr Irate" phone call later
(if it happens to you don't forget to ask them to refund what they've
already charged) it'd been switched back. When I first signed up they
tried to pull a similar trick - I'd wanted 3 for ?30 (Broadband, Phone
and Mobile) but the Mobile contract used a different credit check than
the others so I could only have 2 of the packages. I assumed they'd drop
me down to 2 for ?20 but instead they put me on separate charges (like
they did later on) - again Mr Irate won it through for me. I can switch
him on at will ;)

Useful phrases to use with Virgin:

Surely common sense would dictate...
I can always take my business somewhere else...
Look I know it's not your fault, you're just a call centre operative but
I'm getting really angry with your company
For a communications company you don't seem that good at communicating.

If the person you're talking to is using a script and being
uncooperative
"Can I speak to your Manager" or
"Can I speak to a proper technician" might help.

It might be smooth going for you but I hope the above is useful if not.

I still think the connection speed is worth the hassle ;)

Gary, if you'd like a lift from Bretton let me know.

Unfortunately I will be abroad at this time. I do plan to attend the
next meeting.

Stuart's server has a Creative Labs DXR3 adapter that will still need
some drivers & setup. The internal cabling has been done correctly.
Sorry that this wasn't done yet.

Tony V.

Is this the place:

Bretton, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, PE3 9XJ

It appears to be off Tysdale Road. Is that correct?

I promised myself I would come to a meeting one day, and I'm booked
tomorrow.

I will do my best to come next month!

What problems are you having with the server?

Regards,
Khalid

Howdy,

I guess I should re-introduce myself. I've been lurking on the list
for about 18 months or so, since moving to the P'Boro area in 2007.

I have the absolute privilege of working for myself, and have done so
for several years. I run a web development company called Pixelcraze,
and we focus on delivering PHP / MySQL based applications to small,
medium and large businesses. We do everything from ecommerce sites and
CMS bases sites to bespoke stuff using Google Maps etc.

As part of my job, I get to fiddle around with Linux servers most
days, in a web/db environment. I am quite partial to Centos (I like
their support timeline/roadmap), and have extensive experience with
dealing with cPanel based servers. I don't use Linux on a desktop, as
I am very happy with my mac and OS X.

Off-work, I have recently-ish got a Canon 450D SLR which I am using
when possible. I also have an 8 month old daughter who keeps me on my
toes!

Will make it to a meeting one day!
Khalid

Similar to myself. I did make one meeting months back shortly after I
moved here, but things keep getting in the way.

Ditto! If you ever need any help, let me know.

Strike 3. I promised myself when moving here I would spend more time
behind the lens, but I could do with a few more hours in the day to make
this happen.

Not yet, but I'm sure my wife is plotting the day ;)

Likewise.
