Right, setting the record straight... New Road, you won't get football crowds - (or the charter's crowd). Maybe some fans walk along Oundle Road, but most park on London Road or walk from the town centre.
Crime. The figures from the site look high, but bear in mind it's a city statistic - crime is higher in almost any city compared to a rural area. Check what the figures look like for london if you want to feel better. ;) Overall, the New Road area is pretty nice, close to the town centre, easy reach of the A1 etc and lots of shops within walking distance. But, as with any city, if you've got something flash (like an MV Augusta..... mmmh) hide it and lock it well, or lose it quickly. Broadband availability is good, you'll have the choice of virgin, sky or pretty much any of the standard adsl providers at decent speeds, so nothing to worry about there either mate.
