Sometimes the 'buy it cheap and chuck it away in a couple of years' approach makes sense. However I remain to be convinced that it is always the right thing to do when it comes to laptops. I spent close to a grand on my Dell and six years later I'm still able to run the latest MS Office version reasonably comfortably whilst also running email/web apps at the same time. I don't want silly top of the range gear but I don't want to spend a couple of hundred quid on something that barely manages to run current software speedily.
