Hi, I've lurked a little while on the list, but not yet posted. That said, some of you have met my colleague Jon recently at the last PLUG get together.
Positive Internet is a growing Gnu/Linux only web hosting company who have been around since 1998. We have recently built our own Cambridgeshire Data Centre with hundreds of servers (All running Debian). We offer a variety of servers, some as clusters for load balancing and HA applications and many using our fully managed service. We also have network points of presence in London and Manchester and we have operations in mid and east USA. Good people like Stephen Fry and the BBC regularly rely on our services! We have immediate vacancies for technical / systems support engineers / systems administrators, both senior and junior. These roles would be based at our new data centre (although there may be opportunities to work from home on occasions once settled in) and have a wide salary range + benefits (home ADSL / laptop / mobile phone / generous holiday allowances etc.) dependent on experience and skills. The jobs involve assisting our customers with their web hosting queries and services via e-mail and telephone as well as day to day systems administration and problem solving. A good writing ability is important as well as general experience with Linux and TCP/IP protocols. Knowledge of Java / Perl CGI and PHP are of benefit. In addition a good knowledge of Unix systems administration, heartbeat, DRBD, VRRP, Mysql would also be required in the more senior / higher salary positions. Engineers are expected to participate in a 24/7 call-out rota once fully trained and confident with the systems. Overtime is paid as well as time off in lieu, and the rota duty is approximately 1 week in 9.
