there have been odd bugs where various combinations of distros, versions, BIOS release etc were not good at controlling the fan where the processor had a variable speed fan. Use the system monitor to look at CPU load, as that is ultimately what determines the heat output. It's also worth blowing the air passages and fan out with a compressed air can (available at Staples) both in a forward and reverse direction as the heat and airflow of PCs attract dust and laptops make quite good hoovers esp on soft furnishings.
