I finally stumbled across the correct Google search that yielded some results!

The solution was:

- use select by color tool, with treshold of 0, no feathering and no
antialiasing. Click on the background. This will select only pure white
pixels in the background
- grow the selection by 2 pixels. The selection now includes the background,
and the border pixels (anti-aliasing)
- use Color/Color to alpha with white (it will only applies to background and
logo border)

Tried it a few minutes ago and it sorted the issue for me.

Not a guru (not even a beginner) but I think it’s down to layers, adding a new
layer and making it the transparent layer or something along those lines
Pls repost if you sort it out J

Subject: [Peterboro] Any GIMP Guru's On-List

Hi All

I hope this will be a simple thing to resolve!

I have a small graphic (jpg) which has a plain white background. What i would
like to do (if possible) is make the background transparent so that I can use
the foreground as an overlay.

Sounds simple, been scratching my head for hours now :)
