We have developed the P-UMLaut tool which converts UML 2 Sequence
diagrams into high-level Petri nets. It is currently being extended
to Activity diagrams and will be presented at this year's CeBIT
fair from 9.-16.3., hall 9, stand C21. Further informations can
also be found at http://www.p-umlaut.de and in the paper:

Christoph Eichner, Hans Fleischhack, Roland Meyer, Ulrik Schrimpf, and
Christian Stehno.
Compositional Semantics for UML 2.0 Sequence Diagrams Using Petri Nets.
In Andreas Prinz, Rick Reed, and Jeanne Reed, editors, SDL 2005: Model
Driven, volume 3530 of Lecture Notes in Computer Science, pages
133--148. Springer-Verlag, 2005.

On the tool's homepage you'll also find some references to other UML to
Petri net conversions (page Seminars). Further translations, e.g. by
Xudong He et al., are using Class diagrams and Use Case diagrams. So for
most (if not all) UML diagrams you'll probably find an existing
translation to start with.
