First International Conference on
Performance Evaluation Methodologies and Tools
Pisa, Italy / October 11-13, 2006
http://www.valuetools.org/
in technical cooperation with:
Create-Net/ICST
IEEE Communications Society (approval pending)
IEEE Computer Society (approval pending)
**** Submission Deadline -- April 10, 2006 ****
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In recent years, a range of performance evaluation methodologies
and tools has been developed within disparate research communities
for the purposes of evaluation, design, and model reduction. The
aim of VALUETOOLS is to build bridges between these communities,
bringing theory and practice together in order to:
- compare and debate the complete range of performance evaluation
methodologies and their implementation into tools;
- promote interdisciplinary flow of technical information among
industry systems designers and researchers.
VALUETOOLS will be hosted by University of Pisa, Italy,
on October 11-13, 2006.
** The proceedings will be published by IEEE and **
** accepted papers will be available online via the **
** IEEE website (approval pending). **
** **
** Selected papers will be considered for publication **
** in special issues of Performance Evaluation and **
** Discrete Event Dynamic Systems. **
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
CONFERENCE TOPICS AND APPLICATIONS AREAS
Technical papers describing original, previously unpublished
research results are solicited.
Performance evaluation techniques will draw from the following:
- Advanced simulation tools
* Simulation of rare events
* Parallel/distributed simulations
* Variance reduction techniques
* Large deviations
- Stochastic processes
* Stochastic geometry
* Long-range dependence
* Self-similarity
* Point processes
* Traffic models and measurements
- Discrete event systems
* Petri nets
* Max-plus algebra
- Queueing theory
* Network calculus
* Analytical models
* Approximation methods
* (In)sensitivity

* Perturbation approaches
* Control of queues
Envisaged applications are drawn from, but are not restricted to,
the following areas:
- Networking
- Computer Systems
- Communication Systems
- Distributed Systems
- Road Traffic
- Call Centers
- Optimization (including game theory and convex optimization)
- Graph Theory (including random graphs)
- Interdisciplinary Methodologies (economic, biological and social models)

BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD
There will be a best student paper award. A student must be the first
author to be eligible for the award (unless the order is alphabetical)
and must present the paper. The decision will be made by the program
committee based on the paper content as well as on the presentation.
In order to be a candidate for the award, please send an email to the
general chair and the program chairs along with an email from the
advisor certifying that the student has had a major contribution in the
paper.
