Wanted Process Mining Researchers (PhD and Postdoc level)
The group of Wil van der Aalst at TU Eindhoven currently has 1 PhD and 2 Postdoc positions open in the area of process mining. Please apply before September 30 using the links provided below, please do not contact Wil van der Aalst directly. Postdoc & PhD candidate: Desire Lines in Big Data In the context of the NWO project "Desire Lines in Big Data" we are looking for a PhD candidate and a postdoc interested in Process Mining on huge, heterogeneous event logs. The DeLiBiDa project as a whole runs for a period of four years and aims to develop new process mining technology to analyse big event logs. It is supported by the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Context: The goal of process mining is to extract process-related information from event logs, e.g., to automatically discover a process model by observing events recorded by some information system. Despite recent advances in process mining there are still important challenges that need to be addressed. In particular with respect to handling large-scale event logs. DeLiBiDa aims to develop new techniques to deal with massive event data. There are various settings where it is impossible to store events over an extended period. Therefore, we want to develop techniques for storing large event logs efficiently, for example in databases. Furthermore, we aim to develop in-database (pre)processing techniques to facilitate existing as well as new to be developed process mining technology. Finally, we plan to develop query techniques to make event-data quickly accessible for processing. Therefore, knowledge of or affinity with databases, query optimization, etc. is a pre. Position: The PhD and postdoc will join the Architecture of Information Systems (AIS) group at Eindhoven University of Technology. The DeLiBiDa project as a whole consists of two PhD students and a Postdoc. One PhD student started about a year ago on stream-based process mining. The Postdoc will be involved in the supervision of the PhD students. The 3TU.BSR project as a whole will run for a period of four years and is supported by the three Dutch technical universities (Eindhoven University of Technology, TU Delft, and University of Twente). It was initiated by 3TU.NIRICT, the Netherlands Institute for Research on ICT, which comprises all ICT research of the three universities of technology in the Netherlands. There are six PhD and three postdoc positions in the 3TU.BSR project. In this advertisement we focus on the postdoc position supervised by Wil van der Aalst (TU/e). The postdoc will join the Architecture of Information Systems (AIS) group at Eindhoven University of Technology and focus on the application of process mining to software-related event data. The postdoc will also be involved in the supervision of the PhDs based at Eindhoven University of Technology. Moreover, the postdoc will also run the Eindhoven side of the 3TU.BSR "Big Software on the Run" research program. More information: http://goo.gl/l88CZV Note that we are looking for candidates that really want to make a difference and like to work on things that have a high practical relevance while having the ambition to compete at an international scientific level (i.e., present at top conferences and in top journals).
