Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is hiring several new assistant
professors (UDs) due to the huge interest and investments in Data Science. TU/e
has initiated and developed a new Data Science educational program at BSc, MSc
and PDEng level, in close collaboration with Tilburg University. Two of these
positions are in the area of Process Mining and Business Process Intelligence
within the AIS group.

Architecture of Information Systems (AIS)
The assistant professor positions are positioned in the Architecture of
Information Systems (AIS) group. The AIS research group investigates methods,
techniques and tools for the design and analysis of information systems and the
operational processes they support. The primary focus is on the interplay
between Data Science (DS) and Business Process Management (BPM), as is
reflected by the group's contributions in the area of Process Mining.

AIS's research can be grouped in three highly connected research lines: (1)
Process Modeling/Analysis, (2) Process Mining, and (3) BPM/WFM Technology.
These three research lines share a focus on processes. For example, processes
discovered using process mining techniques can be analyzed using
Petri-net-based verification techniques and may be enacted using BPM/WFM
technology.

The AIS group is one of the leading groups in BPM and DS, and the globally
leading group in process mining. The group puts emphasis on open-source
prototypes to test ideas and share knowledge. Many of the groups software
products have been adopted in practice. YAWL (workflow system) has been
downloaded more than 220,000 times, ProM (process mining tool) has been
downloaded more than 120,000 times, and CPN Tools (modeling and simulation
tool) has been downloaded more than 85,000 times. Note that these are not
commodity tools, but advanced software products related to the business process
analysis and enactment. Hence, these numbers are quite remarkable. Moreover,
these open-source software tools also served as examples for numerous
commercial tools.

Two positions (V32.2519 and V32.2536)
The two assistant professors will work on topics connecting Data Science (DS)
and Process Science (PS), with process mining and business process intelligence
as focal areas. (The term process science refers to fields like BPM, process
modeling, concurrency, operations research, etc. Data Science refers to data
mining, statistics, machine learning, etc.) The assistant professor will also
play a key role in the Data Science Center Eindhoven (DSC/e), one of the
largest data science initiatives in the Netherlands. There is a huge need to
staff able to teach and do research in this area.

We expect that the new staff member spends 50% of the time on teaching, and 50%
of the time on research. AIS is involved in the new Bachelor Data Science with
courses like Process mining and in the new the Master Data Science and
Entrepreneurship with courses like Data-Driven Business Process Management. Of
course supervising master students will also be one of the tasks for the new
staff member.

The exact research focus is to be discussed based on the strengths and interest
of the candidates. We welcome candidates that like to initiate new projects,
develop new areas, and that are passionate about their work.
Requirements
We expect that candidates have:

· A relevant PhD degree on a related topic.

· Proven experience in the broader Data Science (data mining,
statistics, machine learning, etc.) and/or Process Science (BPM, process
modeling, concurrency, operations research, etc.) areas.

· An interest to work on process mining and business process
intelligence and bridge gaps between DS and PS.

· Interested in tool development and empirical research using real-life
data from industry.

· Teaching experience.

Conditions of employment
Appointment and Salary:
We offer:

· A challenging job in a dynamic and ambitious university and a
stimulating research environment;

·        Support with your professional and personal development;

· A gross salary between € 3.400 and € 4.654 per month depending on
experience and knowledge, plus 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year
allowance;

· An extensive package of fringe benefits (e.g. support in moving
expenses and commuting expenses, excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus
child care, and excellent sports facilities).
