Just a note that we run carped fw pairs just as you do, and haul all
the traffic over LACP aggrs to protect against switch hardware failure
(each half of the LACP pair goes to a different switch).

This has been running flawlessly for years.  (We run Juniper EX4300
switches, FWTW.)
