Depends on what you are runnin gon the machine.
We have a dual-E450 at work, and several Dual-PIIs...both running Solaris
7...if I run something like Seti@Home (fp intensive), the dual-E450 will
run *slightly* faster then the Dual-PIIs...if I run something like RC5
(int intensive), the Dual-PIIs will totally blow away the E450s...
The Sun hardware has one *major* advantage...its rock solid. You know
that each part will work with the other...PC hardware takes some
tweaking, but once you have it working, it generally just keeps on
working...
The Sparc chipset is very much a fp workhorse, and totally blows away, in
most cases, an equivalent x86...but, the reverse is true when it coems to
integer work...
At least, this is my experience...YMMV...
