Maybe it makes you feel better, but I have just been working with that
code a little and the alternate location with environment variables is
totally broken. Even if you could ever manage to create a database that
way (which you can't), you'll never be able to drop it cleanly either.
I'll submitt a corrected version of this for the next release.
