This step is wrong. You don't have to manually put the pg_xlog files in the pg_xlog directory -- you have to let the recovery_command copy them back from the archive area. Note that recovery.conf does not go into the share/ directory, but in data/. And it must be present _only_ when you want the system to attempt the recovery, not before.
