== PostgreSQL Weekly News - April 26th 2004 ==
Another rousing week of development as we move closer to 7.5. With
several of the big items under development, we had a lot of discussion about
issues people would like to see addressed including contrib vs. gborg
packaging and case folding, among others. Still, it is the little things that
add up to make a release what it is, and we had a good share this week.
Some improvements to the thread testing program were put in, and we
have started getting some improved reports of thread support on various
platforms. The indexscan and seqscan code was rearranged to cut down on the
number of acquisitions of the BufMgrLock. The postmaster now exits when the
postgresql.conf can not be found. Several fixes were sent in for dbmirror
including one for sequences being mirrored incorrectly if they exceeded 127
and one for dates/times within the transaction files to always use 2 digits.
The \d+ command in psql will now indicate whether a table contains oids. In
one of our first changes to address SQL2003 compliance, the ceiling() and
power() functions were added to alias the ceil() and pow() functions.
We also wanted to announce that we have added two new PostgreSQL Users
Group websites since last weeks announcements. The newest members include
chapters in Portland and Tunisia. If you are interested in these groups or
