It is. It's just the stats collector that won't work, and autovacuum
which depends on a working stats collector. Otherwise the system is
functional.
But it will get broken! Without the autovacuum (and a manual vacuum) a
PG installation could run into loss of (very) old data, because of the
transaction ID wraparound.
Lossing data is very bad, the solution provided by Robert is really
simple. I support Roberts approach.
