You probably want just this:

... date_trunc('day', now()), date_trunc('day', $1)

or if that doesn't work, try this:

... date_trunc('day', now()), date_trunc('day', $1::timestamp)

The syntax TIMESTAMP '...' is only for plain literal constants.
