  I read the backup/restore web page to which you pointed me. I think that
the new database is not initiated. When I follow the instructions and enter:

psql -f /var/tmp/backup.sql

I see:

psql: FATAL:  database "postgres" does not exist

What happens when you psql -U postgres template1 ?


This is the same message I read when I append 'postgres' to the command. Back
to the manual.
