[GENERAL] cant connect php to postgresql

i am trying to connect php to postgresql but im getting warning FATAL: IDENT
authentication failed... for user and  pg_connect("dbname=swati user=xyz
password=abc");

and hence cant work
plz tell me wat is d problem
