While we're on this topic...  I have a question on these series
of queries:

select count(*) from customers c
where not exists ( select 1 from orders o
where o.customer_id = c.customer_id )

-- Query B
select count(*) from customers c
where customer_id not in ( select customer_id from orders)

I had a similar sort of query and got told that work_mem is the most important thing here.
