Maybe you could describe your use case in a little more detail? How did you end up working with PostGIS geometry via psql on regular basis? What exactly do you find of annoyance? How will the proposed patch help? I find it great that we have people with polar opinions in the discussion. But to reach any consensus you should make the opponent understand your situation.
