This patch seems to have gotten some feedback but development has stalled. It's marked "waiting on author" but I'm not clear exactly what is expected from the authors here. It seems there isn't really consensus on the design at the moment. There's been no emails in over a month.
Fwiw I find the idea of having a separate "aux" table kind of awkward. It'll seem strange to users not familiar with the history and without any clear idea why the fields are split.
