"any of the...are" sounds more natural to my ears, and some searching yielded some grammar sites that agree (specifically that "any of" is only used with singular verbs if the construction is uncountable or negative). However there are also multiple claims by grammarians that either singular or plural verbs are acceptable with the "any of" construction. So that's not all that helpful. James
