Well, if you're trying to tell me what is easier for me to read, you're probably wrong. I won't presume to try to tell you what you find easier to read. I think the main benefit of a sprintf type function for PostgreSQL is in the formatting (setting length, scale, alignment), not in making concatenation more pretty. -Kevin
