I tried it already myself and it did not work the same for me. Perhaps I messed something up but I tried two or three times and the value of log_disconnections did not change in the open session when I did SHOW after reload, but in new backends it did. On the other hand I also tried a different SIGHUP var (log_checkpoints) and saw that effect immediately in the open session. Was too tired to follow up last night though. Have you verified for yourself that it behaves the way you say?
