In the meantime, I've added this patch to the 9.4 Debian package, and the build including check-world succeeds: https://buildd.debian.org/status/fetch.php?pkg=postgresql-9.4&arch=alpha&ver=9.4.4-2&stamp=1440797195 It'd be nice if the patch could get applied to 9.4 and earlier.
