Great! Since you're convinced that this is an unqualified win, please put together a project plan for switching from our current system to Github. Make sure to account for all current functionality, even if your plan is to drop it without archiving. For bonus points, you can do a side-by-side comparison of the system we have with the system you envision, including the running and switching costs.
