"disallowed" reads better to me. I agree with expanding "chars" to
"characters" though. Also, the errdetail is conveying no actual extra
detail AFAICS. I'd go with something like
errmsg("identifier contains disallowed characters: \"%s\"",
text_to_cstring(qualname)));
