I can never remember how Darwin kernel versions map to OS X versions?
But the real question is whether you've got (any vestiges of) a manual
readline installation.

OS X 10.11.6

From config.log...
configure:13546: ccache clang -Qunused-arguments -fcolor-diagnostics -o conftest -Wall -Wmissing-prototypes -Wpointer-arith -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wendif-labels -Wmissing-format-attribute -Wformat-security -fno-strict-aliasing -fwrapv -Wno-unused-command-line-argument -O2 -I/opt/local/include/libxml2 -L/opt/local/lib conftest.c -lxml2 -lz -lreadline -lm >&5

I recently discovered things now work even if I don't supply --with-includes=/opt/local/include and --with-libraries=/opt/local/lib to configure, so maybe that's it.

In any case it doesn't bother me enough to investigate it right now. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something more serious.

Thanks!
