+1 on the implied concern.

I don't pretend to know the right way to do this with workspaces, but I can say 
that we currently do not give enough feedback that the image is busy.

Dont know what you mean but if you need a busy cursor thats easy:

Just use the appropriate cursor from the Cursor class and give your long 
operation in a block:

     Cursor wait showWhile: [ ... ]
