On Linux, I've had some **possible** problems with returning swords as out parameters. There is a lot going on in that case, so it's premature to blame the vm - this is with Eliot's latest build.
Eliot's build have clear problems locating libraries on Ubuntu - looking for goodness in all the wrong places... Either way, I think there should be links to both sites and a clear drive to choose and fix a leader.
