What I described should be WebDAV compatible (more or less, I haven't tried).

From where I stand, learning & configuring Apache and friends is a lot more 
complex and less fun than doing it in Smalltalk.

But it also depends on what you want: as I said you have to consider account 
management, security and probably sharing.
