I read this interview and it was pretty good. Was nice to see opinions and such from both sides of the camp on the same subject. BUT, after reading the interview and some of the comments from some of the users, I have to agree with some of them. MS Windows, via XP and such, *currently* owns the desktop market, whether we like it or not. And since they own it, that means there is at least *something* they are doing right (again, whether we think it's right or wrong is irrelevant). So that means, as a competitor you have to do *price comparisons* to the other company(ies). Example, if you own a retail company, you can't just go out and set prices as you see fit. You have to do your homework, and check against what other companies are charging for the same type product, then set yours to be competitive in the same market area. So, that means if your developing KDE/Gnome/whatever-else-ends-up-here, then you have to compare what your currently doing, to what the company's are doing. So if that means you need to get a hold of an XP machine or whatever other MS Windows machine, then you do it and at least look at what it does or has to offer. If that means you install an app to see what it takes to install then you do it. If that means you use their File Manager (Windows Explorer NOT Internet Explorer) to see what it offers, then you do it and see. You don't have to see the source code or do every little thing that the other companies have to offer, but you do at least compare and find out what is involved with it and compare it to what you have to offer. You also don't have to do the same things that the other company offers, or at least make it look like the same thing, but at least do the same things (how it gets there doesn't matter). Anyway, in a nut shell, not looking at or using XP for some time (which is your competitor whether you are competing with it or not) and comparing notes is not *keeping up with the joneses* so to say. Didn't do this to spread FUD (this *isn't* FUD is it? LOL), compare one ot the other or anything. Just an opinion of one person and things *I* would do if I was a developer of some program and such. -- Mike Chambers Madisonville, KY "Hand over the code, and no one gets hurt!" -- Phoebe-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/phoebe-list
