Red Hat Linux release 8.0.94 (Phoebe)

I tried to set up printing to a queue on a remote Unix
machine as I've done hundreds of times before. I tried using
"redhat-config-printer".

Before doing anything else, I got an Error dialog box that said:
An error occurred while loading or saving configuration
information for redhat-config-printer. Some of your configuration
  settings may not work properly.
Poking the "Details" button, I got:
-------
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
 CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
 CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
Configuration server couldn't be contacted:
 CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0
-------
I hit "OK" and tried to proceed.
I specified "lexems1" as the printer name and gave it a short
  description.

I selected Networked Unix (LPD) queue on a server called "data"
  and queue called "lexems1".

That got me to the "Printer model" page. The printer is a Lexmark
"Optra N" which is not one of the choices. I've always selected
"generic postscript" previously for this printer, but although
the comment on the page said "you may need to select the generic
PostScript option here", there was no such option to be found,
and I couldn't proceed without selecting a printer model, so I
was stuck.

On one of the attempts to make this work, in the text window
from which I invoked "redhat-config-printer", I got:
----------
[EMAIL PROTECTED] lpd]# redhat-config-printer

(redhat-config-printer:6603): GLib-CRITICAL **: file gshell.c: line 603

-------------------
The setup for the same printer worked fine in 8.0.

Suggestions?
