I haven't tried to compile a kernel for awhile now. It was with early versions of 2.5 and they did work with my monolythic versions.

I'll probably select the source for the most current 2.5 version and give it a go. It is a beta version system and is intended for testing of newer technologies, in my view.

This might be interesting to see how the real version of the kernel compare to the backported versions ofr the 2.4 Red Hat, stock kernels.

This ought to be an interesting comparison. At least for my own evaluative pursuits.

Anyway, if the backporting effort is really a workable option, to using the developmental version of the kernel, within odd numbered releases. I guess the only non-backported option would be to build your own 2.5 vesion of the kernel to use the enhancements within my home use linux environment.

I'm currently running linux kernel 2.5.64-mm7 on my RedHat Phoebe3 (8.0.94) machine. It's awesome. Interactive tasks fly and Andrew's Anticipatory Scheduling elevator is really nice. I recommend giving it a try :-) Cheers! Felipe
