Hi,

I just tried to start KDE on Phoebe 8.0.94 and got:

"could not start kdeinit. Check your installation"

The sessions then terminates, restarts X11 and goes back to gdm.

I haven't noticed this before since I'm usually using Gnome; with 8.0.93 I could use KDE several times.

I'm updating via rpm and the Fedora repository; since there was not much activity in the last weeks this might be since moving to 8.0.94 some time ago.

Anyone else experiencing this? Suggestions?

Greetings, -asb

The up2date repository is static. Ther hasn't been an update there for awhile now. I haven't gotten any new rpms since I installed phoebe3. Try installing kpackage or gnomerpm to give you some visual rpm managing means, or try to install the rpmwiz rpm for the GUI rpm manager.

About KDE not working any longer for you, it is probably because of conflicts between what Fedora gives you and what Red Hat gives you.

Now to a means to get KDE working again. This is to run redhat-config-packages and then trying to reinstall the KDE desktop with the one and only tool.

Welcome to the list and note that being phase 3, there are a lot of different ideas and concepts being thrown around. Some of them related to the actual distribution.

Good luck getting KDE working again. I'm a GNOME user myself. KDE is a welcome backup though.
