Using the midnight commander, it is a pretty easy thing to do. Gmc actually required mc for some functions, it is a missed file manager. I wish the option for the two was still in later releases.

Being a visual shell, it is pretty easy to use for editing soft links.

Also, since you brought up soft links. I was reading some discussions regarding hard links. I was wondering if that problem with the common directory was hard linked or soft linked.
