If the motor is a replacement, it is nicely done. The crank hole lines up nicely and from the pic there is no evidence of another hole. The spindle damage could have been the result of putting too many records in the storage compartment, I think.

I would imagine that Columbia made their own motors and turntables and that the spindle wouldn't have affected the label on the inside of the lid if it was the correct height.
