Bob,
Sometimes slow and deliberate is the best way. Especially when working with
valuable antiques.

I once used a heat gun on an antique dresser handed down through my Family
that I was stripping three coats of paint off of. One of my "ancestors"
thought that it was a good idea to paint a beautiful serpentine faced
dresser made of quarter sawn oak with white paint, then yellow, then white
again.

I thought that the heat gun would hurry the job along. I ended up burning
the oak in a few places. It took me much longer to repair the damage than
if I had just stuck with the citrus based stripper that I had been using.

The old story of the tortoise and the hare comes to mind. :0)

Tom:

thanks, I had heard of them however, I use a hair dryer mostly. Sometimes I
get tired of it taking so long. Always wanted to try one.

A heat gun can be purchased at hardware stores and is used for stripping
paint among other things. They have a higher heat output than a hair dryer
and can cause damage or start a fire if not used properly.

I like all the suggestions and would like to add how helpful a heat gun
might be.  Those of you that know me, also know that I don't own a hairdryer
but I imagine it would also help.  Jerry Blais
