The security patch from redhat apparently causes this problem (possibly
among other things). Editing the socket entry in the php.ini file
fixes the problem. My version is 4.0.6-12.

And what is your PHP version?

Edit the mysql socket entry in the php.ini file and restart the httpd.

Try this:

mysql.default_socket = /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock

There was a bug in the configure. Should be fixed in CVS
now.

most likely a configuration error
