mb_ereg_replace can't replace to "\\0" ?

echo mb_ereg_replace("\1", "\\1", TEST_STRING_1,"p");
// but not
echo mb_ereg_replace("\0", "\\0", TEST_STRING_0,"p");
// and also
echo mb_ereg_replace("\1", "\\0", TEST_STRING_1,"p");
