Bug description:Namespaces affects existing code after upgrade

After upgradeing from php 5.2.4 to 5.3.2 (with ubuntu 10.4), the following
code won't work:
<?PHP
class namespace extends something {
}
?>
The error message: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_NAMESPACE,
expecting T_STRING in ...
The documentation says:
Q: If I don't use namespaces, should I care about any of this?
A: No. Namespaces do not affect any existing code in any way
( http://www.php.net/manual/en/language.namespaces.faq.php )

Expected result:

in this case, I won't define a php-namespace, but a functionality within my
application, which was called so before namespaces existed in php.
Actual result:
