I humbly apologize! "make install" works and it seems that all is
well, except GD 2.0.8 doesn't seem to be playing well, but that's not
your problem. Thanks for a great product!

Previous release compiles never just ended that quickly. Is it safe to
try a "make install"?

Correction to my last comment. That last line is actually sapi/cli/php
- not api/cli/php.

It just stops and the command line appears. Here are the last few
lines of the "make" command on the screen. I hesitated to try "make
install" for fear of messing up my current installation.
sapi/cli/php_cli.so sapi/cli/getopt.lo main/internal_functions_cli.lo
-lmysqlclient -lcrypt -lresolv -lm -ldl -lnsl -lcrypt -o api/cli/php
[root@localhost php-4.3.0]#
I have also tried compiling with only the mysql and apx options to rule
out the other packages and it still stops.

Are you sure your compile fails? Does "make install" work? If no,
please post a last few lines of the make output.
