I've tried gettext 0.10.40 but got the same unreferenced symbol.

Could you try with an older gettext version?
Like 0.10.40, which I know works for sure.

I can get the compile working if I move "function_entry
php_gettext_functions[]" and "zend_module_entry
php_gettext_module_entry" to the end of the gettext.c file but than I
get an UNREF for "zm_info_gettext"...
