Something broken in your system. (works fine for me with AIX 4.3.3 and
GCC) Propably your gcc installation is borked.

Got me the latest Stable version of 4.3 off snaps.php.net.
Configure went smoothly (except for one warning that bison 1.28 is
needed, we have 1.25).
The very first compilation, however, fails with below messages :
