This bug has been fixed in CVS. Snapshots of the sources are packaged every three hours; this change will be in the next snapshot. You can grab the snapshot at http://snaps.php.net/. The fix has been included in the 4.3 branch now too so it should be included in the next 4.3.x and 5.0.x releases.
